Did You Know?

A direct descendant of the King Charles Spaniel and English toy spaniels, these cute little dogs were used as a lady’s lapdogs, providing companionship and warmth back in the 16th century. They were also used to attract fleas during the period, so as to protect their owners from contracting the plague.

As the breed developed, and their prominent nose became increasingly common, King Charles Spaniels with longer faces were classified as ‘Cavalier’ King Charles Spaniels, to differentiate them from the King Charles Spaniels with shorter snouts. One thing’s for sure. We’d all have long faces if these wonderful dogs didn’t exist.
